GLOD SWEET

  • Description
The Gold Sweet variety developed by theGYEONGSANGBUK-DO AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH & EXTENSION SERVICE is a type of grape that can be eaten with the skin. It is harvested in mid-September, about two weeks earlier than the Shine Muscat variety. It has a refreshing texture like an apple and a fragrance similar to acacia, making it popular among young people. It has a high sugar content of 24 Brix and a distinctive acacia scent. The development of new varieties like Gold Sweet was driven by the increase in imported grapes, leading to a preference for European varieties that are seedless, have high sugar content, and low acidity. Additionally, there was a need to develop high-quality domestic varieties to reduce overseas royalties and international disputes. Therefore, heGYEONGSANGBUK-DO AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH & EXTENSION SERVICE began research in 2013, investigating cultivation conditions and developing techniques suited to domestic conditions for stable, high-quality production. In 2014, they established optimal fruit set standards for the Shine Muscat variety and selected rootstocks such as 8B, 101-14, and SO4 suitable for domestic cultivation and soil. They also established techniques to reduce labor and increase sugar content, setting the inflorescence length to 3.5 cm and adjusting the number of berries per cluster to 35-40 in mid-altitude areas (300-350 meters above sea level), achieving a yield of 1,800-2,200 kg per 10 ares and a sugar content of over 18° Brix in about 120 days from full bloom (late September). In response to farmers' demands for various new varieties, they have been actively developing domestic varieties since 2014 to replace Shine Muscat and other varieties. They developed and distributed the Big Dela variety, which has larger berries and higher sugar content than the Delaware variety. The Gold Sweet variety, which can be eaten with the skin, has a sugar content over 2° Brix higher than Shine Muscat, is harvested 15 days earlier, and has a crunchy texture. It was developed and distributed after farm validation tests. The Gold Sweet variety has good fruit set and yield, low flower drop and cracking, and is easy to manage, making it suitable for short-pruning. In 2023, they exported 1 ton of grapes to Thailand and Vietnam for the first time through the Daegeum Agricultural Cooperative Federation's export sorting center. This export was the result of a contract signed at the 16th Hong Kong Fresh Produce Expo in September 2023, which the Agricultural Technology Institute attended to develop export markets, achieving successful initial exports.
