Among Korean export foods, laver is the best-selling item as it is highly preferred by foreigners. The agricultural corporation JAYEONHYANGGI Co., Ltd. has been developing five flavors of seasoned laver products for export such as green tea, pollack roe, tuna, cheese, and cumin(tzuran) since its establishment in 2012. The company is currently in business with Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. In particular, with the active support of Vietnamese local buyer ‘Tran Phuong Nam’, JAYEONHYANGGI was able to successfully enter Vietnam.

 

 

#Achievement of USD 800,000 export in 2019

The JAYEONHYANGGI was founded in 2012 in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do as a company who handles distribution, production, and exporting agricultural and regional products. The trading was possible by producing a range of processed lavers with different flavors including pollack roe, green tea with roe, spicy, cheese, cumin(tzuran), and normal hadong laver. The main export countries are Taiwan, China(Qingdao, Shanghai), and Vietnam, where the orders from buyers are steadily increasing as JAYEONHYANGGI’s products have been branded as premium laver. Their products are characterized by adding healthy ingredients to the laver, packed with nutrition and distinguished taste, not just an ordinary piece of seasoned laver.

 

 

#Numerous kinds of quality laver

As a premium product, pollack roe seasoned laver is made by mixing pollack roe with other seasoning, where starch and lactose ingredients are thinly coated on the surface of the laver. It helps maintain a crisp texture longer than regular laver. This product is especially popular in Japan, which is perfect as a nutritional side dish with rice, or pairs well with beer as a snack.

When it comes to spicy laver, it is particularly characterized by its hot taste as it has extracted spiciness from Korean hot chili pepper to create a real spicy flavor. Tuna seasoned laver is also attracting taste buds made by mixing tuna meat with other seasoning. Cumin seasoned laver is prepared by adding cumin(tzuran) with seasoning ingredients. In addition to seasoned laver, the company also produces laver snack and seaweed snack.

 

 

#This year, USD 1 million worth of export using local branch

The JAYEONHYANGGI plans to continuously expand exports by actively utilizing online sales networks such as Amazon in the United States and WeChat in China. Therefore, local network management by strengthening relationships with local import buyers is an important factor in growing businesses. In fact, the company has participated in Vietnam’s K-Food Fair held by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation(aT), which resulted in many meetings with buyers with substantial purchasing power, signing a number of export contracts.

#Expand exports by maintaining cooperation and trust with export partners

The JAYEONHYANGGI Co., Ltd. was helped considerably by a local buyer ‘Tran Phuong Nam’ until it was successfully launched in Vietnam. ‘Tran Phuong Nam’ invited Chairman Noh Jang-sik of Korean laver exporter to show his local logistics warehouse, subdivision factory, and Vietnamese restaurant in operation to build trust.

 

Q. What kinds of Korean agricultural products are popular in Vietnam?

-Vietnamese consumers know a lot about Korean food like kimchi, pork belly, ramyeon, gimbap, and, of course, laver. Korean ingredients and seasonings to cook Korean dishes are also popular. You can easily find various types of Korean ramyeon, meat sauces, red pepper powder, and gimbap laver in traditional markets and supermarkets in Vietnam.

 

Q: How did you meet JAYEONHYANGGI Inc.?

-I met the company thanks to the support from chairman Noh and aT in some events like product consultations and promotional events. And their support was of great help to the company to succeed in exporting processed laver products to Vietnam. We were able to expand the sales of laver-related products by harnessing all the distribution networks we already secured in addition to the support. We have solidified our trust and cooperative relationship with JAYEONHYANGGI as our partner, and we have been able to import processed Korean laver products for seven years now.

 

Q. Why is Korean laver sought-after in Vietnam?

-A few years ago, Korean seasoned laver has become a popular import item as it has been branded as a health food in Vietnam. It is gaining attention because of its unique aroma, crispness and texture that melts smoothly in the mouth, and has no fishy smell. It is also suitable for a wide range of ages from children to adults with high nutritional value. Moreover, it is packed in a small package which is easy to store, and convenient to eat is another successful feature.

 

Q. What is your plan to import Korean agricultural products in the future?

-We plan to increase the supply of various processed laver products produced by JAYEONHYANGGI throughout Vietnam. We would like to introduce more Korean food to Vietnamese consumers. We have no doubts for sales, as local Vietnamese have high confidence in Korean food. Thus, sales are projected to grow significantly in the future.
